The Space We Create
Less Encumbered, More Intentional
There are moments when I find myself thinking about space.
Not the physical space around me.
The space within my life.
The space to think before responding.
The space to appreciate what is already present.
The space to enjoy something without wondering what comes next.
The space to invest myself more intentionally.
As I reflected on this, I realized that space is usually created.
It often emerges when something else no longer occupies it.
A commitment reaches its natural conclusion.
An expectation no longer feels appropriate.
A standard no longer reflects the person we've become.
A habit quietly fades because it is no longer needed.
Perhaps this is one reason becoming less encumbered can feel so meaningful.
It isn't simply that there is less.
There is more room.
More room to observe.
More room to appreciate.
More room to think with greater clarity.
More room to devote ourselves to what genuinely matters.
More room simply to be.
I sometimes wonder whether we underestimate the value of that space.
Our lives naturally become full.
Responsibilities increase.
Relationships evolve.
New opportunities appear.
Many of these deserve a place in our lives.
Discernment helps us recognize that not everything deserves a permanent one.
The space we create is rarely empty.
That space becomes available for what is more aligned with the life we're living today.
Available for relationships that deserve more of us.
For work that reflects our values.
For rest that renews us.
For curiosity.
For presence.
For the ordinary moments that become easier to appreciate when every part of life no longer feels occupied.
A Gentle Reflection
If it feels useful, you might notice:
a place in your life where a little more space has changed the way you experience your day
something that once felt essential but no longer asks for your attention
one place where creating space has helped you recognize what deserves your time and energy
what has become possible because something else reached its natural conclusion
Perhaps becoming less encumbered creates more space for the life we have.
